Most vocal classes in Goa follow a fixed curriculum — same warm-ups, same scales, same exam pieces, regardless of who you are. We don’t work that way. At School of Music, every student starts from where they actually are. A 7-year-old discovering they love to sing, a teenager who wants to perform their favourite songs with real confidence, an adult who’s been told for years they “can’t sing” and is finally ready to prove themselves wrong — each gets a lesson built around them. Different voice, different background, different goals, different lesson.
We don’t train students for grade exams. We train them to sing. Rodden — trained in voice at Kala Academy Goa and a performing vocalist with 25 years on stage — builds every class around your natural voice, not a generic technique. Breathing, posture, pitch, tone, range, expression, song interpretation — all of it taught at your pace, in your direction. Because the point of learning to sing isn’t to pass a test. It’s to find the voice that’s already yours, and let other people hear it.
Almost anyone can learn to sing. Genuine tone-deafness is rare — affecting less than 4% of people. Most people who say they "can't sing" simply haven't developed pitch matching, breath control, or the muscle coordination that singing requires. All of these are trainable skills. With proper teaching and consistent practice, the vast majority of students improve dramatically within months.
Every lesson covers breathing and posture, vocal warm-ups, pitch and ear training, tone development, and song work. Breathing is taught using the diaphragm rather than the chest — most beginners breathe incorrectly when they sing, which limits power and control. We then build up through scales, intervals, and finally songs you actually want to sing. The structure stays the same — the material adapts to your voice and goals.
Your vocal range is the span from the lowest note you can sing comfortably to the highest. Rodden identifies your natural range in your first lesson by guiding you through a simple scale exercise. Once we know your range, we work within it for the first few months, then gradually extend it with proper technique — never by straining or pushing your voice into uncomfortable territory.
Yes — pitch accuracy is one of the most teachable skills in singing. Off-key singing usually comes from undeveloped ear training rather than a bad voice. Through scale work, interval exercises, and solfeggio, your ability to hear and match pitch improves quickly. Most students who started "tone deaf" can match pitch reliably within two to three months of consistent practice.
Most students notice clear improvement within two months — better breath control, more stable tone, and improved pitch. Real vocal transformation, where your voice sounds confident and consistent across songs, typically develops over six to twelve months. Singing is a long-term skill, but the early progress is steady and audible.
It's never too late. Adult voices are fully developed, which actually makes vocal training more predictable than teaching children with changing voices. Rodden teaches adults of all ages — from beginners in their 20s to learners in their 50s and 60s discovering their voice for the first time. The window doesn't close.

No, we don't train students for grade exams. Our focus is performance — singing real songs, building confidence, and developing the voice that's already yours. If you later decide to pursue a Trinity or Rockschool certification, the foundation we build will more than prepare you, but exams are never the goal.
