Classical Guitar Classes in Goa

Anyone aged 7 and above is welcome to learn classical guitar at School of Music. We teach complete beginners who have never held a guitar, intermediate players looking to refine their technique, and adults returning to music after years away. There's no audition, no prior experience needed, and no upper age limit.

Not at the beginning. All beginners at School of Music start with flesh (am not sure if this is the way to put it. But you can decied)  only — focusing on movement, contact, and tone production before anything else. Nails are introduced later, once your technique is established, and only if you want the brighter, more controlled tone they produce. Many serious classical guitarists play their whole lives without nails.

We accept students from age 7 and above. Classical guitar is one of the better starting instruments for children because the nylon strings are gentle on small fingers and the wider neck helps with accurate finger placement. Starting young also helps build proper sitting posture and hand position before any bad habits can form.

With consistent practice, you'll be playing simple classical pieces within a few months. Real fluency — the ability to interpret repertoire with control and expression — typically develops over years. Classical guitar is a long path, but every stage along the way is musically rewarding. You don't have to wait years to play something beautiful.

Acoustic guitar focuses on chords, strumming, and song accompaniment using steel strings, often with a pick. Classical guitar focuses on fingerstyle technique, right-hand finger independence, and reading standard notation on nylon strings. Both are valid musical paths — classical builds deeper technical foundation, acoustic gets you playing songs faster.

Reading standard notation is part of classical guitar from the start, but you don't need to know how before you join. Rodden teaches notation gradually alongside technique, so you build the skill at the same pace as your playing. Within a few months, reading classical sheet music becomes second nature.

Yes, we do prepare students for graded classical guitar examinations when that aligns with their goals. However, our primary focus is performance-based learning — helping students develop proper classical technique, fingerstyle precision, and an expressive understanding of the repertoire. Should a student wish to pursue an ABRSM Classical Guitar or Trinity College London grade, we are happy to provide the structured preparation needed for success. We view examinations as valuable milestones rather than the ultimate objective, with the true goal being a deep, lifelong connection with classical guitar and its rich musical tradition.

Classical guitar classes at School of Music Calangute for a group class with 5 students in a batch are priced at ₹2,000 per month for 4 sessions, one session a week.

A private classical guitar class is priced at ₹4,800 per month for 4 sessions, one session a week.

Each session is 45 minutes long. Payments are taken on a monthly basis, to be made in full by the last week of the previous month.
